Rubens' Brazil Q&A

Rubens Barrichello loves racing at Interlagos. He grew up near the track and feels the passion of the crowd around every turn. Here are his thoughts ahead of his home race.
Q: This is your 19th Brazilian GP. What does it feel like to be racing at home?
RB: It’s fantastic – of course! This race gets better every year. For 20 years I lived just the other side of the road from the track, so I know pretty much everyone around here. To race at Interlagos is always a very emotional experience and even though I don’t have a competitive car, it’s still very special.
Q: What are your hopes for the race?
RB: To get the best possible result, which means scoring points. That would be a great way to end the season.
Q: The performance of the FW33 was good in Abu Dhabi. Does that give you a lot of confidence going into this race?
RB: Absolutely. The car was good in the race at Yas Marina and I was pleased with the way I drove from the back of the grid. I raced hard and although I didn’t finish in the points, I still got a lot of pleasure from the drive. We didn’t introduce a lot of new parts to the car there; we managed to get the maximum from what we had and I hope we can do that again here.
Q: How much do you associate Interlagos with the legendary Ayrton Senna?
RB: He won his third world championship 20 years ago this year, so it’s very, very special to be here at Interlagos. I’m so proud that I raced him at this track on a couple of occasions. I was here with him, getting the same buzz from the people. Even though we haven’t been as successful as he was, we still have a lot of good feeling with the crowd and that always makes me feel that Senna is still involved.
Q: With a year of DRS and KERS behind you, do you think the new rules have been a success?
RB: For 20 years people said there wasn’t enough overtaking in F1 and all of a sudden we’re being told that there’s too much! I enjoy the new rules a lot. It’s still difficult to follow the car in front and the DRS has helped that. It’s true that it’s sometimes made overtaking too easy, but sometimes it hasn’t been enough and I think the FIA now has all the numbers to make the show even better next year.
