Vietnam not lined up for a GP

Circuit advisor Hans Geist insists that the FIA are not looking to include Vietnam on the F1 calender despite the Austrian visiting the country.

Geist recently travelled to the country to meet with officials at the same time as rumours of a proposed circuit in the Nha Trang bay area of the country surfaced. It is believed that investors are interested in constructing a track in the southern area of Vietnam, roughly 200 miles east of Ho Chi Minh City.

Despite this, Geist insists his visit was not the beginning of negotiations for a grand prix in Vietnam.

"My mission is usually to inform interested parties about Formula 1 and what it takes to build a race track to FIA F1 standards and organise a GP," said Geist

"I would say that of all my informative meetings maybe 10 per cent develop into a serious concept. In Vietnam, my job was purely informational."

The Austrian admitted that to his knowledge, South Africa, Bulgaria, Romania and Argentina are keen on hosting a GP, while there is also interest in the creation of a second race in China.
