F1 goes HD... in Germany
Formula One fans in Germany, Austria and Switzerland will be able to watch their favourite sport in 'native' High Definition this year.
Although commercial rights holder Bernie Ecclestone is yet to confirm their plans for the 2011 season, SKY Germany revealed on Tuesday they will broadcast in HD.
Brian Sullivan, CEO of Sky Germany, said: "The broadcast of Formula 1 in true HD is something that millions of racing fans in Germany, Austria and Switzerland have yearned for."
According to Autosport, 'Sky would not be able to offer true HD coverage of F1 if Formula 1's own official feed was not broadcast in High Definition - so its announcement suggests that Formula One Management has informed them that it is ready with its ambitions.'
This will be music to many viewers' ears after a FOTA survey in 2010 showed that HD broadcasts topped the wish list of many fans.
The BBC is yet to reveal whether they will be broadcasting in HD in 2011.
"Further details about BBC plans for 2011 will be released in due course," a statement from the public broadcaster said.
