Button: Alonso must win by more than 7 points
Jenson Button has reopened the can of worms that is the team-orders scandal of Hockenheim.
The current world-champion believes Fernando Alonso must win the title by more than seven points if he is to avoid tainting his third championship.
"Some will be disappointed with what happened at Hockenheim and question whether he [Alonso] deserves it," said the McLaren driver who is now out of the running for the championship.
"I don't know. He is a World Champion, so we will have to wait and see what happens - but I just hope he wins it by more than seven points."
Button isn't the only one to have expressed this view. Former FIA president Max Mosley and Red Bull team principal Christian Horner both voiced their concerns earlier this month.
Meanwhile, when Button was prompted for an answer to who would take the title in Abu Dhabi, he replied: "I don't know.
"It's very close. It's between Mark and Fernando. Fernando is an exceptional driver but I wouldn't pick any of them. Whoever wins it, deserves it."
