Jarno Trulli has admitted that he is worried by the reliability of the new Lotus T128 after completing his pre-season testing schedule.

A gearbox problem meant the Italian only managed six laps on Thursday morning; his final session in the car before the first race in Melbourne. Team-mate Heikki Kovalainen went on to complete 40 laps in the afternoon, but Trulli was still not fully satisfied.

"At the moment we have many things that are not right and that give rise for concern," Trulli said. "We have a lot of problems for the first race and in this respect the cancellation of Bahrain is for us very welcome."

Having been the best of the new teams in 2010, Lotus are aiming to close the gap to the midfield runners this season, and Trulli was still optimistic that could be achieved.

"We have many new parts for this year and also many things we can do to improve during the season, so let's wait quietly. I'm sure there is still a lot to come before the first race. I am confident about taking part in the middle of the field this year."
