TOURISM AUTHORITY OF THAILAND TO HOST THAI TRADITIONAL WEDDING FOR 44 CHINESE COUPLES

Bangkok, 1 March, 2011 — The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is hosting a full-scale Thai traditional wedding for 44 Chinese couples on March 2, 2011, at the Nong Nooch Garden and Resort in Chon Buri.

“There are many unique aspects of Thai traditions that appeal to foreigners, and the wedding ceremony is one that has been receiving a lot of attention over the past few years. Thus, TAT is confident that this event will inspire honeymooners, from China as well as other countries around the globe, to come to Thailand in order to celebrate their marriage the Thai way,” commented Mr Suraphon Svetasreni, Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand.

The ceremony will start in the afternoon with the groom’s (khan maak) procession, consisting of elephants carrying trays of gifts from the groom's to the bride’s families, klong yao (a traditional Thai drum) performers, and Thai traditional dancers.

The celebration ends with a grand reception in the evening, including the release of floating lanterns, which is considered good luck as it symbolizes problems and worries floating away.
