Another great aspect of the weekend at Goodwood was the presence of the National Motorsport Week competition winners who joined the team for the weekend. The two winners, one on Saturday and one on Sunday, became a member of the team for the day, helping the mechanics on various tasks around the car.
James and his guest Joanna were with us on Saturday, and James described his day as “absolutely amazing… probably one of the best of my life. It has been brilliant watching the team do what they do”. The highlights of his day were to “sit in the car, to see and touch the steering wheel”. James also had the chance to fire the car up with the hydraulic starter. He admitted to seeing Formula One differently after his experience, as “fans sometimes see races and it looks clinical but today showed me that it is really a sport of people who really love what they’re doing.” When asked to describe his day in three words, James simply replied: “Best day ever!”
We spoke about passionate fans earlier… well how about driving seven hours from Scotland to spend the day with us? Kevin and his dad Dennis were with us on Sunday having made the long drive down. Kevin described his day as “simply brilliant. We saw all the aspects of what’s done around the car, it is really great to see it from the inside.” Kevin also started the car during the engine warm-ups in the tent.
“I’ve been lucky enough to be in an F1 paddock before but a day like today is much better – it only misses a bit of wheel to wheel racing, but apart from that it was simply a brilliant day! Anyone who has the chance to come along should definitely do it!”
