HUNGARIAN QUALIFYING: A HARD DAY’S NIGHT

on Jul 30, 2011

Red Bull Racing continued their dominance of 2011 Qualifying with Sebastian taking P1 for the eighth time this year at the Hungaroring with his 23rd career pole.

It means that between him and Mark we have secured the pole at every race leading up to the summer break, but this was one the whole team definitely had to work for. It was a late Friday night in the Hungarian Paddock as the team used its first curfew exemption of the season to make car set-up changes.

And, while Seb’s car ran smoothly throughout this afternoon, Mark had a Kers issue during the second qualifying session. It became available during the final ten-car shoot-out, but it hampered his final preparation.

After seeing his team-mate take pole for the past two races, it was a return to P1 for Sebastian for the first time since the European Grand Prix in Valencia, and his performance was down to his confidence - and the mechanics. He said: “The boys were working pretty hard and didn’t get much sleep, but a result like this is the best way to say thanks. I’ve got the confidence back, today I felt much more comfortable in the car and I’m looking forward to tomorrow.”

For Webber tomorrow is going to be a tougher prospect, but, as Christian said: “Mark’s a great racer and I’m sure he’ll make good progress.” The man himself was typically straight-talking: “Kers was up and down and bit, and in the end I wasn’t quick enough and couldn’t get the lap time. So we have to come back tomorrow and see where we are.”

And tomorrow? We’ll be back here at 2pm as the lights go out for the final time before the Factory shutdown.
