FIA GT3 – No luck in Race 2

Maranello, 21 August – Ferrari failed to come away with good results from the second scheduled race at the Slovakiaring in Orechová Potôň, near Bratislava, the home of the fifth weekend of the FIA GT3 European Championship. After their second place in yesterday’s Race 1 and their fine start this morning, the 458 Italia of Federico Leo and Francesco Castellacci led the race until the 25th minute when it unfortunately ended up in the sand after a tyre blowout on a Lamborghini.

Instead victory went to the Mercedes SLS AMG of Philippe Giauque and Mike Parisy, ahead of the sister car Leonid Machitski and Jarek Janis and the BMW Z4 of Csaba Walter and Claudia Huertgen. The first Ferrari to finish, run by the British team Mtech Motorsport, managed only 17th place in the hands of Duncan Cameron and Matthew Griffin.

With one more race in the championship, scheduled for the weekend of October 16 at Holland’s Zandvoort circuit, the AF Corse Ferrari of Castellacci and Leo still leads the title race with 97 points, 14 ahead of the second-placed Giauque and Parisy.
