Narain Karthikeyan faced the Indian media on Saturday for the official unveiling of tickets for the inaugural Indian Grand Prix in October and said that his dream of racing in front of his home fans was about to become a reality.
Kathikeyan lost his seat to the up-and-coming Daniel Ricciardo after the European Grand Prix in June but said he was expecting to be back in the HRT race seat for the Indian GP. "It was always a dream for me to race in Formula 1 and race in front of my home crowd," he said. "And now thanks to the Jaypee Group that dream is going to be a reality."
However, Karun Chandhok, who raced for HRT last season and had a one-off outing for Lotus at the German Grand Prix, was less certain about his participation. "I've always maintained that racing in the German GP this year was a one-off," he said. "The team seem to be pleased with my performance at the event so we will see what happens."
Plans for the race are on course according to the organisers. Tickets will be on sale through what was described as "vending outlets" from early September, and around the same time the Buddh International Circuit will be inspected by FIA delegates. If all goes well, it will be opened to the media near the end of the month.
Asked about report local farmers, unhappy at the money they received for the compulsory purchase of land needed to construct the circuit, could cause problems with protests, the circuit chief said: "The sale of the land was finalised and completed when we acquired the land back in 2007. I'm sure that we won't have any trouble with the running of the event."
