Checo Pérez Qualifies the Belgian Grand Prix 9th

Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium, August 27, 2011 -Third time in the season that the Mexican driver Sergio “Checo” Pérez appears in the top ten of the qualifying sessions, registering today his best position of the year. He will start tomorrow’s Belgian Grand Prix from the fifth row, 12th round of the F1 2011 World Championship.

Checo started the Q1, first of the qualifying sessions, under quite difficult conditions and was able to register a lap of 2m06.284s and positioned 15th, advancing to the next session, Q2. He also set the best speed trap during the final straight called Kemmel with 309 kilometers per hour.

During Q2 a red flag appeared due to an accident of Adrian Sutil in what was a very wet track due to the heavy shower; however, when starting the session again the rain calmed down and Checo could register a lap of 2m04.625s, which led him to Q3, last qualifying session for third time this year.

While Q3 the Mexican driver used his soft compounds and could slowly improve his time until he set a lap of 1m51.374s, placing himself ninth and setting the best speed trap at Les Combes, right before the Kemmel straight with a speed of 318 Km/h.

“I’m happy with the results today. It was a very difficult but good qualifying for the team. In Q3 the car had a slight vibration but nevertheless we have put ourselves in a good position to score points tomorrow. I’m glad it all worked out today. I’m looking forward to seeing what I can do from what is my best grid position so far in Formula One.” Said Checo.

At the end Checo commented being overwhelmed with Monterrey’s situation and dedicated his race to all the families , Monterrey and México.
