Red Bull does the first laps of the Indian Circuit

Oct 19, 2011

We’ve been quite busy on the subcontinent with our Showcar lately: and the last outing was the very first laps of the new Indian Grand Prix circuit in a Formula One car.

First we entertained adrenaline-seekers at The Rajpath in Delhi, then we scaled new heights (18,380 ft to be precise) and created a new world record in the process for being the first ever Formula One car to drive the highest motor-worthy road in the world.

And yesterday, we became the first Formula One team to drive the Buddh International Circuit ahead of the Indian Grand Prix.

With its mix of slow turns and high speed straights, plus circuit elevation, the track was a fierce challenge for Red Bull driver Neel Jani - the man who has put the Red Bull Running Showcar through its paces in all of our recent Indian exploits. And (as the only driver to have driven the Buddh International Circuit so far…) Neel currently holds the world record for its fastest lap time.

He said: “For me, India is as good as coming home. Setting two records in one week with Red Bull Racing in India is a fantastic feeling. Getting to open the track with my Indian roots is a big honour for me and to being doing that with the 2011 World Champions Red Bull Racing is an added honour. I’m sure, come race weekend, that Seb and Mark will push their RB7s on this extremely exciting and fast track.”

We have just two weeks to go until the Indian Grand Prix and although we have managed to defend both our titles – Drivers’ and Constructors’ for the second year running, we’re still pushing for more points, podiums and victories in India.
