Sergio Checo Pérez finishes 11th after a difficult GP at Abu Dhabi

Despite showing himself quite upset after finishing the Abu Dhabi GP in 11th position, the Sauber F1 Team driver, Sergio “Checo” Pérez proved once more an excellent performance after his incident with A. Sutil in the first lap which forced him to pit early and made him overtake all the way from the end of the contenders finishing 11th and without KERS.
“Checo”, who had started off in the 11th position, same position as in the practice rounds could overtake two positions, positioning ninth. However, in turn seven “Checo” had a contact with Adrian Sutil damaging the front wing of his Sauber C30-Ferrari #17.
This made Sergio pit early and change all the front of his car and it would be there, in the first lap where lost time and several positions. When he goes back on the Yas Marina track he’s in the 23rd position, the last of all contenders of the Grand Prix of the F1 World Championship 2011.
He would start the overtaking and slowly, in lap 39 of the 55 agreed, when he could finally overtake Vitaly Petrov he positioned in the top ten, the points zone. However, ten laps later Sergio would be missing one position from his teammate Kamui Kobayashi and couldn’t defend himself because he was with no KERS.
Besides from that Sergio had to defend himself six more laps from the Brazilian, Rubens Barrichello and finally finished 11th.
“Sad with t he results, I had higher hopes for the race today. It is a shame what happened on lap one. There was a queue into turn seven and I couldn’t avoid hitting Adrian Sutil’s car. My front wing was broken and I had to pit after lap two. I struggled with the tires and also for the last 12 laps my KERS wasn’t working. Now we have to wait for Brazil.” Commented “Checo” Pérez.

No obstante que Sergio “Checo” Pérez se mostró contrariado tras cerrar decimoprimero el Gran Premio de Abu Dhabi, el piloto mexicano de Sauber F1 Team demostró una vez más gran rendimiento, luego que se fuera último tras la primera vuelta por contacto con Adrian Sutil, donde dañó el frente de su monoplaza, pero “Checo” se recuperó desde atrás para terminar 11º y ya sin KERS.
“Checo”, quien largó decimoprimero, la misma posición que tuvo en prácticas y en el final de Gran Premio de Abu Dhabi, tuvo una excelente salida, ganando dos posiciones y colocándose en el noveno lugar; sin embargo, en la curva siete Checo alcanzó a tocar la llanta trasera de Adrian Sutil, dañando el alerón delantero de su Sauber C30-Ferrari #17.
Eso obligó al piloto mexicano a ir al box para cambiar todo el frente de su monoplaza, y sería ahí, justo en la misma primera vuelta, donde perdería tiempo y posiciones, pues cuando “Checo” se reincorporó a la pista del Yas Marina, lo hizo la posición 23, la última del pelotón F1 de este penúltimo gran premio del Campeonato del Mundo 2011.
Y desde atrás “Checo” iniciaría la remontada, lentamente, y sería hasta el giro 39, de los 55 pactados, cuando tras un gran rebase al ruso Vitaly Petrov, se colocaba en el top-ten, la zona de puntos. Sin embargo, 10 giros después, Sergio perdía la posición justamente con su coequipero, el japonés Kamui Kobayashi, sin posibilidad de defenderse dado que se había quedado sin KERS.
Pero además, “Checo” tendría que defenderse por seis vueltas más, ya con neumáticos “cansados”, del brasileño Rubens Barrichello, quien no pudo pasar al mexicano. De modo que “Checo” concluiría en la decimoprimera posición.
“Triste por este resultado. El contacto en la primera vuelta me arruinó el obtener una mejor posición. En el primer giro, en la curva 7, se hizo un trenecito y fue ahí donde toqué la llanta trasera de Sutil, donde se dañó el alerón delantero. Luego, casi al final, me quedé sin KERS y ya no puede entrar a los puntos. Ahora, será en Brasil”, dijo “Checo” Pérez.
