Frankfurt 2011: 2012 Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid and Toyota Prius+
Toyota will present at the Frankfurt Motor Show the series version Prius Plug-in Hybrid, the outlet powered derivative of the famous hybrid, and a seven-seater MPV version of the Prius called Prius+.
Toyota launches the version of Prius powered from the outlet
Toyota officially announced the debut of the new Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid at this year’s edition of the Frankfurt Motor Show. The model tested intensively in the last six months, is ready to make its appearance before the public and show everyone that it can match Chevrolet Volt or Opel Ampera.
A pioneer for the hybrid segment, Toyota Prius Plug-in adopts, with the new version that can be powered from the outlet, a new lithium-ion battery pack that will improve the average consumption and reaches a value of only 2.2 litres/100 km. Also reduce emissions to 49 g/km.
The new Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid can run on a much greater distance only in electric mode due to a new set of batteries. Given that the Toyota Prius Plug-in concept offered 20 kilometers (12.5 miles) autonomy only in the electric mode, we can expect that the production version shown at Frankfurt to approach this value. More information will be released near the launch date.
Toyota Prius+, the 7-seat brother of Prius comes to Frankfurt Auto Show 2011
Toyota brings in Frankfurt the second member of the hybrid family of Prius. This is Toyota Prius+, a model that can accommodate seven people with luggage. The same model has already been launched in Japan (where the it is called Toyota Prius Alpha) and in the U.S. (where it is called Toyota Prius V). Although already presented in Geneva in March, the IAA represents the moment when Toyota launches its car effectively on the European market.
The MPV from Toyota will be the most spacious model in the Prius range, its interior being significantly more voluminous than the hatchback the version. The new Toyota Prius+ has, among other things, an integrated fixed ceiling glass and a longer wheelbase by 15.5 cm (6.1 inches) compared to the third Toyota Prius generation, launched in 2009. Speaking about height and width, Toyota Prius+ is 8.5 (3.3 inches) and respectively 3 cm (1.2 inches) larger compared to the Prius hatchback.
To get the third row of seats, Toyota engineers had to compress the block of lithium-ion batteries, while maintaining performance, power and autonomy derived from it. Obviously, driving modes that customers have available on the Toyota Prius hatchback (EV, Eco and Power) remain available also on the Toyota Prius+.
