Frankfurt 2011 Live: Audi – performance and ecology

The Audi Stand at Frankfurt Motor Show 2011 had numerous premiers, which aimed several models with outstanding performance or future electrical concepts of the brand born in Ingolstadt.

Audi presented in Frankfurt the new releases of S line sports, along with the futuristic Audi A2 concept, a hybrid version of Audi A8, a new version for the Audi R8 e-tron and two new electrical concepts: Audi Urban Concept and Audi Urban Spyder Concept.

Audi S6, Audi S6 Avant, Audi S7 and Audi S8

We are talking about the Audi S6 (in sedan and Avant versions), the Audi S7 and Audi S8. The new Audi S6 sadly loses its V10 engine in favor of a V8. Still, performance and technical data does not fall in comparison to the current model. The new twin-turbo V8 develops 420 horsepower and 550 Nm, managing to accelerate from 0-100 km/h (0-60 mph) in 4.8 seconds (4.9 seconds for the sw version) and has a top speed limited to 250 km/h (155 mph). Audi announced that the official consumption is 9.7 litres/100 km (9.8 liters Avant).

Audi A2 Concept

The future Audi A2 concept has been brought to Frankfurt. It presents a range of technological solutions for the first time in the automotive industry. Audi introduced a glass ceiling that changes its level of opacity at the touch of a button and the tail lights have different levels of brightness, which change automatically depending on the outside conditions. The center console is not placed on the floor, but it is attached to the driver’s seat.

Audi A8 Hybrid

The Audi A8 Hybrid was also present in the Audi Stand at Frankfurt. It will be launched on European markets in 2012 and completes the offer in the premium segment. This Audi A8 luxury version promises a low consumption level while having a basic 2.0-liter TFSI diesel engine. The drive train consists of petrol-electric torque (the latter powered by lithium-ion batteries) which brings the total maximum load of 245-horsepower and 480 Nm. Performance of the German model are interesting: 7.7 seconds 0-100 km/h (0-60 mph), maximum speed of 235 km/h (146 mph), but extremely low emissions (148 grams CO2/km) and a good consumption: 6.4 l/100 km.

Audi R8 e-tron (new version)

Audi R8 e-tron came to Frankfurt in a new version. Audi promised to start the Audi R8 e-tron mass production by the end of 2012. The electric version of the Audi R8 will have a top speed electronically limited to 200 km/h (125 mph) and will use many components of carbon fiber to reduce its weight. Time for the full charge varies between six and eight hours at a standard 230-volt outlet.

Audi R8 GT Spyder

Audi introduced the R8 GT Spyder version at the Frankfurt Motor Show 2011. The model will be built in just 333 copies, same as its R8 Coupe brother, and its mass was reduced by 85 kg, the total being 1640 kg. This new Audi R8 GT Spyder needs 3.8 seconds to accelerate from 0 -100 km/h (0-60 mph) and can reach a top speed of 317 km/h (200 mph). The R8 Spyder bodywork uses Audi Space Frame technology and has a mass of only 214 kg.

Audi Urban Concept and Audi Urban Spyder Concept

The two Audi related concepts made their debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show 2011. Audi announced two very simple models created especially for your town, easy and efficient. It’s the Audi Urban Concept EV and its convertible counterpart, Audi Urban Spyder Concept EV, Some say these two electric prototypes aim to show a possible design direction that will be adopted by the German mark in the future. Both cars have the same electric motor propulsion under the bonnet, one of 15 kW (20 hp), the machine having the capacity to go from 0 to 60 km/h (0-38 mph) in less than 6.5 seconds!
